IQuiz LXIII: A taste of Bogotá's top trivia night, the comeback special!

The end-of-year bumper quiz, a tradition for many publications — English-language ones in any case (is it a thing in other languages?).

And some of you may be aware that I had been running a quiz (or trivia, if you prefer) night, IQuiz "The Bogotá Pub Quiz", in Bogotá since 2015. This year, though, largely due to my more nomadic nature of late, looked set to be the first one without an IQuiz since its inception. But, thanks to the fine folks at the Irish Embassy, I was coaxed out of my trivia retirement to compile and present an IQuiz — the 63rd one all told — for the embassy's Christmas get-together. That took place on Friday 13 December — one can't afford to be superstitious in these straitened times!

Now, not to let a good (if I do say so myself) quiz be confined to a select view, and following in that end-of-year-quiz tradition, below I'm sharing the bulk of the questions asked on the night, minus the Christmas songs that made up the last round — I can't really share the audio here! Thus, you'll also have to skip over the other questions that have an audio element to them. Nonetheless, there's enough in it to have some fun over the festive period.

The live event took place on 01 December, important to note for the on-this-day questions. By the way, the winning team on the night, the appropriately named We Drink, Therefore We Are, got an impressive 43 points out of the 50 available. Well done, guys!

Trivia time! Video version of IQuiz LVII now available!

As I've always said, it's better (and more profitable for me!) to actually come to IQuiz "The Bogotá Pub Quiz" for real.

Of course, for those not residing in Bogotá, physical attendance at the city's top trivia night is next to impossible.

As you'll see, it's devoid of the swashbuckling host that you'd get at the live event — you can't win them all — but all the relevant audio is there.

Obviously, you can pause it, rewind or skip forward where needs be.

It's important to note for the on-this-day/famous-birthday questions that the date this edition of IQuiz actually took place was 25 August (the year being 2022, in case you're reading this well into the future!).

The Wrong Way Corrigan Brains Trust has been otherwise engaged over the last couple of weeks. The chief reason was due to our planning of the latest IQuiz "The Bogotá Pub Quiz", Bogotá's top trivia night!

IQuiz: It's best played live!

The actual live event, our 55th edition, took place at Bogotá's snug Cervecería Gigante on Plaza de Lourdes on Thursday 19 May 2022.

Via the following link, you can try it out for yourself. Why not play with family and friends? The idea, of course, is that it's a bit of light entertainment. Don't take it too seriously! As a guide, at the live, in-person event, after the five regulation rounds we had a tie, with the leading teams getting a respectable 36 points out of 50. 'Las Babillas del Sinú' (what a name!) got closest to the answer in the tie-break question, thus winning the first prize.

IQuiz "The Bogotá Pub Quiz", edition LIV: The Quiz-mas cracker!

A Quiz-mas cracker of an IQuiz. Play it for fun!

It's our Quiz-mas cracker (see what we've done there?!) edition of IQuiz "The Bogotá Pub Quiz", Bogotá's top trivia night.

And while nothing beats being there (honestly, it's better played live, competing with others in a fun, lively environment!), at least this video version gives you a flavour of what it's about. The live event was at Cervecería Gigante on 16 December 2021.

IQuiz "The Bogotá Pub Quiz": play for fun!

With the not-quite-post-pandemic "new normal" taking shape, IQuiz "The Bogotá Pub Quiz", Colombia's favourite (pending independent verification) trivia night made a long-awaited live return. Cervecería Gigante, an old acquaintance but now with a shiny new look and location, was the honourable host.

IQuiz: 53 not out.

And while 'nothing beats being there', as the saying goes, not everyone can physically attend — we haven't managed to get those chartered flights from all over the globe, um, off the ground just yet.

So, for you quiz buffs or those just curious to give it a go, wherever you may be in the world, here you can participate at your leisure (and for free, but minus the prizes!) in what was our 53rd edition of IQuiz.
